Evening Firesides

2009 Speakers

"I suppose the greatest investment that someone can make in life, in terms of 'horizontal' relationships on earth, is to invest in one's family. The sad reality is that often, in our busy world, we invest leftover emotional energy and time in the ones we love the most. Families need to get away, refocus, redirect, and think about the ultimate priorities in life. That's what Wind River is all about. For us it has served as a bench mark along our life's family journey, a reminder that life is short, beautiful, and impossible without God. Not to mention, a lot of fun when it's spent loving each other on top of a mountain! This is stuff lifetime memories are made of."

Jeff Warren - Senior pastor,  First Baptist Church,  McKinney, Texas

"I often discover God's will and way in little things. God does speak in a still, small voice. Over the months that have passed since August, I can close my eyes and return to that state of grace and peace of Wind River Ranch. My need to return to that place is just as constant and needful as the multitude of hummingbirds that I saw all week long. All over the ranch there are hummingbird feeders filled with nectar. I'm drawn to the experience of Wind River Ranch time and again each week even as those hummingbirds are drawn to the feeders. In the span of just one of fifty-two weeks, we receive the assurance that even a mustard seed of time together as a family can make all the difference. We treasure our time there. May we all discover or rediscover our call to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul, and our neighbor as ourselves."

Keith Boone - Senior pastor,  First United Methodist Church,  Rockwall, Texas

"Invest in your family and your relationship with God.

Wind River Ranch will take your breath away. This will be the best week of your life from the moment you arrive. More than you will be able to fit into a Daytimer- memories that will last a lifetime. Your families experiences will be fertile seeds that will continue to grow, bearing wonderful fruit, nurturing your family throughout the year.

Time? We needed to slow down and watch the baby colt come into the world; watch majestic elk nibble beside the hot tub and pick that special tea bag for an afternoon cup of overdue halt to an otherwise fast paced world. Get ready to go for a walk in the sweetness of intimate time together. Just enjoying each other for who God created you to be. It will happen here.

Kids and family, our most precious investment of time well spent. We are not counting the days until school is out- but still we are in view of the snowcap of Long's Peak from our cottage window at Wind River Ranch again this summer.
"

Jim Behling - Director of Deer Creek Camp,  New Braunfels, Texas

"Wind River Ranch is the perfect mountain vacation. The beauty, serenity and charm will refresh you. The attention and creativity of the staff will spoil you. The time with God will revitalize you. The experience of Wind River Ranch will draw you back again."

Dr. Bill Brewer - Senior Pastor, Richland Bible Fellowship, Richardson, Texas

"I went to Wind River during a week in the summer of 1998, not knowing what to expect, really, besides a few days in the scenic mountains of Colorado. What I came away with was a renewed spirit, a refreshed body, and a scrapbook of wonderful memories that will live on in our family for years to come. We can't wait to get back."

One of the highlights of the week is hearing and getting to know our featured speaker. With the ranch capacity at 55 guests, the setting for the morning study and evening firesides are very informal and cozy. The speaker and his family hike the mountains, play golf, ride horses, fish for trout, laugh along with everyone, participate in the events and roast marshmallows with all the guests. We have been blessed to have nationally known authors, speakers, evangelists, and pastors who love this type of setting. Listed below is the line up for the summer. Please call if you have any questions. Believe me, if they are coming to speak they are the best of the best. Each have their own style, but all of them are fabulous.

The Peasall Family

A week with the Peasall's is a week you will not soon forget. They are a family that will bless your socks right off! The three oldest girls auditioned for the roles of George Clooney's daughters in the 1999 movie, "O Brother Where Art Thou". As it was, they didn't look pitiful enough to be cast, however, their harmonic voices were wanted.
Sarah, the oldest is 20 and a newlywed. She plays lead guitar. Hannah is 17, and plays mandolin while singing soprano to Sarah's alto. Leah is14, plays a sassy fiddle and sings tenor. Daddy, Michael Peasall plays stand-up bass and throws in some on the vocals. He is a former music minister, a pastor and one who carries a passionate message of the Savior whom he, his wife Sally and family serve. There will be occasions where the whole family will entertain you from brother Joseph, 11,with electric guitar and even sister Emma, 7, might come out to clog for you. The one to bring up the rear is Julia, 4. We know that in this family, talent flows freely. She will bless you with her smile.

After an early foray into the world of country music, Kirk spent 12 years in the publishing industry ultimately starting his own consulting firm. However, his passion for the local church and loving people for Jesus's sake led him to start CrossBridge Community Church in San Antonio in 2003. The church's core group of 27 people grew to 800 in less than four years as they reached out to the community. A 2nd year speaker, Kirk will bless you with stories and music. He and his wife, Debbie and their three daughters are eager to return to the ranch for more good times this summer. For more information, go to www.CrossBridgeCommunityChurch.com.

Women's Retreat

Melissa Shaver

Walking in Grace Ministry is back for a second year at Wind River Ranch.

"Walking in Grace Ministries is truly my testimony. I am who I am literally because of God's grace in my life. God truly has stubborn love for every one of us and will not let go...I am living proof of that."

"When I became a Christian, I had no idea what to do next. People said, "Welcome to the family," and then went on their merry ways. I was left wondering what to do now. I kept hearing that the Bible was living and applicable to life. But I didn‘t know what that meant or how to find it. It wasn‘t until I began to learn how to sort through scripture ? to look at truth and then turn it into application for me ? that I began to grow in my walk with the Lord. And, it changed everything! Truly a transformation."

It is Melissa's heart‘s cry that you learn to love the Word of God so that you can know the God of the Word. She will challenge you to a deeper walk with the Savior and you will be blessed.
